Ambitious RPG with flaws
This game could have been a hit and the answer to the lack of (good) RPGs on the Nintendo64. Unfortunately, flaws prevent it from being a hit. Nevertheless, the game remains an interesting gaming experience. The map (and the game) is huge, and you can customize your characters in great detail. So, you'll be occupied for a long time with this game. However, the combat system is not ideal, and the graphics and sound are outdated. If you're a fan of RPGs, then you should definitely give Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage a try. Casual gamers might want to look elsewhere.

Unique experience with unique frustrations
Aidyn Chronicles may entertain you in its initial hours, however, after a while, it becomes clear how slow and full of flaws the game is. It is a very ambitious game with quite a bit of depth, however, this is unfortunately undermined by random crashes, getting stuck in walls, and quality of life annoyances. (For example, once you complete a scenario, you can no longer return to a previous location.) A unique experience and certainly not an everyday game, but possibly only suitable for avid collectors. Ambitious RPG with Technical Shortcomings
Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage is an ambitious RPG for the Nintendo 64, but unfortunately the game struggles with its execution. The story revolves around the young Alaron, who is on a quest to find a cure for his mysterious illness. For me, the fantasy setting with its depth was one of the few positive aspects. The game attempts to create a grand adventure with a wide array of magical spells and abilities, and the open world gives you a sense of freedom and discovery. Yet I found that these elements weren’t enough to make the experience truly immersive.

Unfortunately, technical issues spoil the potential of Aidyn Chronicles. The graphics are very dated, even by N64 standards, and performance problems such as low framerates and long loading times slow the game down. The turn-based combat system does have depth, but feels slow and frustrating. As a result, I derived little enjoyment from the battles, which is a shame for an RPG. The controls also leave much to be desired, making the world less inviting to explore.

There is a lot of potential in Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage, but it feels unfinished and lacks the polish to truly shine. For fans of classic RPGs, it might be an interesting title if you focus solely on the story and can overlook the many flaws. However, due to the technical shortcomings and frustrating gameplay, I would only recommend it if you are a huge fan of the genre and are willing to look past the issues.
