Underrated Classic
Castlevania 64 has a bad reputation. The game is said to be frustrating and difficult. But that goes for almost all Castlevania games. If you look beyond the negatives (which do exist), you'll discover a game with a lot of depth, good graphics, great atmosphere, superb music, and terrifying bosses.
Forget about the bad reputation of this game and judge for yourself. The game will pleasantly surprise you (if you dare/can)!

7,9Ambitious 3D transition with frustrating controls
Castlevania for the Nintendo 64 marks the transition of the beloved series into 3D and is an ambitious experiment. I noticed that the game introduces two playable characters, which adds variety to the way you can experience the game. The signature gothic atmosphere, with its dark and grim environments, is beautifully supported by an immersive soundtrack. This contributes to the intense atmosphere that you would expect from a Castlevania game.
However, in my opinion, the gameplay is sometimes hindered by the limitations of the hardware. The controls don't always feel smooth and the camera can be frustrating, especially during platforming sections and battles. This makes certain parts of the game unnecessarily difficult. It's a shame that these technical limitations can detract from the experience, but it's important to remember that this was an early attempt to bring the series into 3D.
Despite these shortcomings, Castlevania on the N64 has its own charm. The game offers a unique interpretation of the Castlevania experience and manages to surprise at times with its ambition. For fans of the series, it might be interesting to see how the transition to 3D was handled. It's a game that can be appreciated for its brave attempt to try something new, even if it sometimes falls short in execution.
