Underrated Classic
Castlevania 64 has a bad reputation. The game is said to be frustrating and difficult. But that goes for almost all Castlevania games. If you look beyond the negatives (which do exist), you'll discover a game with a lot of depth, good graphics, great atmosphere, superb music, and terrifying bosses.
Forget about the bad reputation of this game and judge for yourself. The game will pleasantly surprise you (if you dare/can)!

I can still remember the day I got this game on its release. I have cherished and loved this game ever since that day. This is partly due to:

1: The very smooth controls.
2: The great soundtrack.
3: The level design.
4: The end bosses, I'll come back to that in a moment.
5: the in-game extras.
6: the slick N64 graphics.

*spoiler alert* I would like to elaborate on the end bosses now. When the end bosses appear, epic music plays and the graphics come to life in a much more beautiful way. There can literally be mushroom cloud explosions with end bosses, and that fact alone I find truly amazing. When you reach the good ending, you have to fight the true form of "Dra-kula." This battle is truly everything I could have ever wished for. Furthermore, Death itself also appears in the game, and that is also a fantastic battle, especially when he summons the fish from Hell.

Furthermore, a tip: when you have to fight the bull boss in the 5th level, there is a way to extract a large amount of meat from him. You do this by depleting enough of his health until he is reduced to a skeleton. From this point on, you must let him do his thing until he decides to STAND to spit on you. Cut off his legs so his upper body falls down and then finish him off from his belly. Now he will burst open and leave behind a lot of meat.

In short, this Castlevania is highly disliked among NES and Symphony of the Night fans, but no one can expect a blind person to see the beauty of the day. This game is very underrated, and at this price, it is truly a must-buy game.

Genre: Action/adventure/platform with a hint of mild horror.

Ambitious 3D transition with frustrating controls
Castlevania for the Nintendo 64 marks the transition of the beloved series into 3D and is an ambitious experiment. I noticed that the game introduces two playable characters, which adds variety to the way you can experience the game. The signature gothic atmosphere, with its dark and grim environments, is beautifully supported by an immersive soundtrack. This contributes to the intense atmosphere that you would expect from a Castlevania game.

However, in my opinion, the gameplay is sometimes hindered by the limitations of the hardware. The controls don't always feel smooth and the camera can be frustrating, especially during platforming sections and battles. This makes certain parts of the game unnecessarily difficult. It's a shame that these technical limitations can detract from the experience, but it's important to remember that this was an early attempt to bring the series into 3D.

Despite these shortcomings, Castlevania on the N64 has its own charm. The game offers a unique interpretation of the Castlevania experience and manages to surprise at times with its ambition. For fans of the series, it might be interesting to see how the transition to 3D was handled. It's a game that can be appreciated for its brave attempt to try something new, even if it sometimes falls short in execution.

One of the best games ever!
This game is an excellent sidescroller with plenty of challenge. The game features a fantastic soundtrack and the graphics are very impressive for the Nintendo 64. The gameplay is also very enjoyable and diverse, with many different enemies and bosses to defeat. In short, Castlevania is a classic that every fan of the genre should play. I give the game just short of a 10 because of course no game can truly be perfect.
