Nice concept, poor execution
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is Mortal Kombat's attempt to step out of the fighting game genre, specifically the 'beat 'em up' genre. A refreshing concept, but poorly executed. The game has subpar controls, little enemy variety, badly designed levels, mediocre graphics, and is way too difficult.

Only recommended for Mortal Kombat fans looking for something different.

Not Worthy of Mortal Kombat!
When you think of Mortal Kombat, you think of brutal fatalities, cool special moves, and hard-hitting uppercuts. Everything, and I mean everything, is missing in this Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero.

You think: cool, a game all about Sub-Zero! But it's anything but Mortal Kombat. The gameplay is like a 2D platformer with terrible controls, and half the time you don't know where to go. So you fall and you're dead, and you have to start over. Such a shame, could have been a cool game.

Nintendo didn't win this battle either, considering the PlayStation version was better received.

Also applicable here: the game is so bad that it has become a rare item complete in box. Only for the die-hard fans of Mortal Kombat!!

In this game, you play as the cool ninja Sub-Zero and embark on an exciting adventure full of combat and mystery. The game combines action-platform elements with the famous fighting style of Mortal Kombat. You will face enemies, solve puzzles, and improve your skills to defeat the evil Shinnok. ... and that gives me so much joy!

Historical Context

Brrr, this game was released in 1997, a time when the Mortal Kombat series had already made a big name for itself in the world of fighting games. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero was one of the first attempts to expand the franchise with a story-driven adventure. Although it was not as well-received as the traditional fighting games, it remains an interesting title for fans of the series as it provides more background information about one of the iconic characters, Sub-Zero.

Personal tip:
How can I button mash to defeat an enemy in N64 games?
Maarten Jalink
If you can't defeat an enemy in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, you can always resort to button bashing. This means simply walking up to your enemy and pressing as many buttons as possible at the same time. You'll perform various attacks without knowing exactly what you're doing. It's not really enjoyable, but it can be handy when you're in a tight spot.
